The City of Hitchcock has worked closely with College of the Mainland to provide specific training needs for industry. The college has initiated a degree program with the assistance of the local petrochemical industry that trains individuals in petrochemical processes. The program is P-Tec. The end result is an associate degree for the student and an employable workforce for the local industry.
The college has had nearly 100 percent placement of all students who graduate from the program. In addition, the college works with local businesses for short-term training in special needs area or specialty jobs. Credits earned in its Associate in Arts core transfer to all public Texas universities. Galveston College opened its doors in September 1967 as a comprehensive community college located on Galveston Island, just 50 miles south of Houston, Texas.

Jack Brooks Park is comprised of 678 acres with access from both Hwy. 6 and FM 2004 in Hitchcock. Park amenities include a public archery range, baseball fields, fairgrounds with rodeo arena, disc golf course, canoe launch, and bike/nature trails. Jack Brooks Park is also home to the Galveston County Fair and Rodeo.
The fair began in 1938 and was held at facilities in Runge Park located in Arcadia, Texas. In the early 1980s, the County Fair had reached its limits of growth at Runge Park and plans began for a move to Jack Brooks Park located in Hitchcock, Texas. The move to Jack Brooks Park was completed in time for the 1984 Fair, and this is where the fairgrounds are currently located. The youth and the animal projects they exhibited are the foundation the Fair was built upon. This tradition continues today.
One of the finest Texas marina’s, the HarborWalk Marina located on West Galveston Bay and features state-of-the-art amenities in a fabulous bay front setting. As a true convenience, members will enjoy our concierge service for boating supplies, Galveston County area information, reservations and more. Marina slips are available for a month-to-month or 12 month lease program. Transient boaters can acquire temporary memberships and experience HarborWalk Yacht Club.
The HarborWalk Yacht Club is a private club located on West Galveston Bay, featuring a swim center complete with a lap pool, family pool, children’s pool, hot whirlpool area and Flamingo Bar. Clear Lake Regional Medical Center (CLRMC) is a 595-bed tertiary regional referral center offering a comprehensive array of medical services for the region's growing population. The Heart and Vascular Hospital provides nationally recognized cardiac care close to home.

CHRISTUS St. John Hospital is a 170-bed full-service acute care hospital located in the Bay Area Houston. The hospital offers comprehensive medical services in cardiology, oncology, intensive care, emergency medicine, diagnostic imaging, gynecology, pediatrics, advanced laparoscopic procedures, cancer treatment, cardiovascular, and vascular specialties.
The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center has opened a free-standing radiation treatment and medical oncology center on the campus.
